Wojewoda (Voivode) - non hereditary title in Poland and Commonwealth.

In medieval time Voivode was equal to English Duke (latin Dux) and German Herzog. During the time of Jagiellon dynasty, Voivode changed to be highest administrative title with Senator dignity.

During the time of Piast dynasty, most of Voivode's origin from early dynastic tribe leaders.
